Having worked here for several years now I realised that no-one has really addressed this. Strange, I know. But, from a customer’s point of view I suppose this is something that we, the signage company, need to answer.
Let’s have a look at some of the issues.
Attention Grabbing
The first thing people see when entering your premises, this is the sign that is right on the front of the building. This may be quite large, visible from a distance so people driving past can see it too.
So if that’s something you’re interested in, then we can definately help you. We have a lot of experience with this kind of sign and they come in a variety of sizes, shapes, designs, colours and materials.
Directions
Commonly called wayfinding in signage parlance, this is to get a potential customer or visitor from point a to point b. Maybe you want to direct people to the sales office, or to the facilities; perhaps you’re getting someone across a large site; lorry drivers might need directions to the stores.
There are plenty of ways that directional signs can help you. Don’t simply think of a one word sign with a vague arrow on it.
Safety
Ah the ubiquitous safety sign. How many are the ways… I simply cannot count the variation of safety signs that I have seen here, designed, printed, applied, and so on. There are -so- many it’s literally a case of what the customer wants on the sign, they can get.
Don’t discount the safety sign because of those reasons though. I found myself looking at one the other day and thought it had been well designed but was poorly positioned (that’s a whole other post).
Information
We have on occasion made small stickers that go on industrial equipment to detail what kind of electrical current it can accept, what the machine is rated to, and so on. This kind of printed label is quite common, and we can create any design that you may need.
Another use for these might be for identification purposes: large offices need numbers to keep track of computers, stores need labels for equipment or racks, public entities might want to identify equipment or link it with a user. The list is endless.
Prestige
Although last in this list this really isn’t last on people’s minds because prestige signs are something we see all the time. What I’m talking about are the beautifully shiny brass or satin aluminium plaques, or the flame polished acrylic signs (that link is as good example of one) outside professional services’ offices (like lawyers, accountants, real estate agents etc).
They can really make an impact but they aren’t necessarily huge. Most of the time they’re discrete and clean, not packed with information but just have a simple message like the business name (think lawyers).
The acrylic prestige signs are mostly used internally, because of concerns about weather and the need to keep them clean. But the satin anodised aluminium signs for example, are quite elegant and although functional they are professional.
