Educational Signage 43

Richly coloured and very smart-looking educational signage can make a school (in this particular case) stand out. The dark deep blue and all of the text and logo on this primary school sign are all created by wide format printing, all put onto a rigid aluminium composite substrate.

This sign is fixed into place using aluminium posts.

Also note the corporate logo in the bottom left hand corner showing the authority responsible.

Many of the signs that we produce use what you might call standard fonts and colours; for example safety signs use yellow for warning, red for prohibition and blue for mandatory, all with a Helvetica font.

But that doesn’t mean all signage should be produced the same way. Here we have an example of some commercial signage that uses a totally unique font, contrasting in colour with a darker background colour. Clear and simple with a little design embellishment on the right side, this wide format printed vinyl sign is hard to miss.

It is created by wide format printing, printing the design onto vinyl them applying to an aluminium composite substrate for strength and attachment.

Fixed firmly to the wall using aluminium locators this concave wide format printed vinyl sign is impressive.

Although it’s not the largest aluminium composite signage we have fitted, and not unusual in any other way, it’s not common to fit it concavely to a wall like this one is.

Bespoke Signage 70

Another information-packed bespoke signage that shows us what you can achieve with clear logos and simple colour changes.

There are two corporate logos on the sign, top left and bottom left, and then there is the main bits of information covering the right-hande side two-thirds.

In a sense this is also a wayfinding sign, showing where the main entrance is.

The entire sign is created using wide format printed vinyl on top of an aluminium composite tray.

Road Sign 21

The variation and differences in road signs, especially on private land like this one, is so wide we could write about it for years to come. This particular road sign is double-sided (back to back).

Built using heavy-duty 11g aluminium these are built to last. With a layer of reflective white vinyl directly on top of the aluminium and then the black and yellow vinyl on top, this road sign will stand out in daylight and at night.

Bespoke Sign 66

This ultimately bespoke sign is what is termed a ‘tray’, but is constructed entirely from aluminium composite, a tough substrate material.

The printing area you can see is wide format printed, and has a further vinyl layer on top to protect the printing from the elements (which undoubtedly it will encounter being where it is).

Not every sign that you see or that we produce is just a bit of flat aluminium composite – here you can see that functionality also plays a big part in some signage.

This particular bespoke signage has a variety of different sign types involved, with the wide format printed vinyl background on an aluminium composite backboard, the clipframes that holds the various bits of A4 paper, and the perspex A4 holders along the bottom including the perspex lockbox, all of which are highly bespoke.

The sign itself is mounted onto the wall using heavy-duty aluminium locators.

Wayfinding Sign 50

Universities are a prime example of sites that need accurate and legible wayfinding signs, students, staff, and visitors all need to get to their destinations with the minimum of fuss.

The sign has been positioned in a very prominent location, and carefully placed by the fitters too, so as not to disturb existing flowerbeds.

As an anti-vandalism measure, an extra layer of vinyl has been added.

Wayfinding Sign 49

Many large buildings, and in this case a University, need extensive wayfinding signs to make sure people can get to their destination. Clear and concise these wayfinding signs need to be simple and easy to understand.

This projecting sign is created from aluminium composite which has the information printed using wide format printing, and another protective layer of vinyl added on top of that.

We design, create and manufacture a lot of wide format printed signs, but sometimes they are quite large and interestingly challenging, just like this one.

With strong single colours, such as the dark blue and the lighter blue, the quality has to be picture perfect, and this is one reason we ask for vector-based images rather than bitmaps (see here for our blog entry).

The resulting wide format printed vinyl is clean and clear.

It should be noted that in this case, the printed vinyl is applied to a strong aluminium composite sheet.
