When I hear the terms ‘industrial’ (or industry) and ‘commerce’ I tend to think of large-scale businesses like car manufacturers, white goods manufacturers, or high tech firms like Samsung or Apple and so on.
‘Industry’ has become a catch-all term for the mass production of items for a global market. That’s a real pity because it doesn’t mean that, or at least, some uses of the word don’t mean that. Looking it up on dictionary.com one of the usages of the word is: ‘systematic work or labor’.
So that’s what got me thinking about this – our work is all about bespoke signage, we design each sign individually for clients, whether we produce one of them or hundreds of them. In reality, we have a ‘systematic’ flow of work from design stages through manufacture to QC.
Another use of the term is ‘any general business activity; commercial enterprise’, a category which again our small business falls into. It’s a business, we not here to lose money after all are we?
We don’t just make one kind of signage for industries here, we design for anyone who wants signage. We can design all kinds of signs, all shapes and sizes, for all different purposes: if you want something making into a sign, it’s a pretty good bet we’ve either done it, or we can do it, remember that in the future if you want a sign! (see the top of the site for our telephone number and email address!)

Realizing that many mobile phones can now view websites, we have incorporated a version of the website for mobile phones only. Given that mobile phone screens are very tiny, the complexity of our site would be rendered very small indeed, so our mobile version is clear and big.
If you have taken the time to look, we have two main options:
- Call us; obvious really, click it and it calls GRS!
- Email us; again, obvious, it’ll open your email client on your mobile.

Although we are a modest lot by most comparisons, we have placed a Testimonials page on the site because a client asked us to add their own testimonials to our page (which at that point didn’t exist).
This was something we had overlooked, and so we constructed one. There are several on there going back to 2008, we will add testimonials to it over time as we receive them.

This is just a quick blog post to say that GRS Signs will no longer be supporting IE6 for their web site (pages). We have made a strong effort to ensure that people using older versions of browsers (specifically IE!) can view the site as it was designed, but it is becoming more and more difficult to cater for all the different versions.
IE6 is pretty much on it’s last legs anyway, so it is high time that we (and you) moved on. IE7 will be next although we will try our best to support that for a while.
Just so you know: there are other browsers out there, like Opera, Safari, Firefox and Chrome.

Variations of Wayfinding Signs
Variations of wayfinding signs. The sign above is very different from what you can usually expect from a wayfinding sign, which are like the picture below.

Just because you think of something in one way, doesn’t mean it gets done that way all the time!
