Many road signs are simple and plain, but deliberately designed to be like that as the most people possible should be able to read them. This bespoke sign however, is in a private area, and so can be a bit more unique.
The sign is created using wide format printing which is then applied to a thick piece of aluminium. It is covered by a protective layer of matt vinyl for anti-vandalism purposes.

Creating unique signs is something we do every day, we design and create signs for every customer, for small projects and large ones.
This beautiful bespoke sign was created for the Leicester Cardiovascular Biomedical Research Unit (you can see the lettering in black vinyl). The back panel is mirrored aluminium composite, with the text created from vinyl as mentioned.
The central design that stands off from the mirrored section is also aluminium composite, with some perspex for the heart design.

Specialist Sign 2
This isn’t a sign that you make hundreds of, it’s a one-off design for a one-off job.
This specialist sign is designed to draw attention and isn’t like any other. The material used is aluminium composite, with the wide format printed vinyl applied on top.
This specialist sign also has a clear vinyl overlay layer to provide protection from the elements. It is fixed in position using heavy-duty locators.

Specialist Sign 1
It has to be said that nearly all of our work is bespoke, it is designed from scratch, built by hand, all to a customer’s specification. Some signs are a bit more specialist than others, here is an example.
The cut out letters along the top are fairly common, constructed from aluminium composite, but with the addition of the bottom section this has become more than the standard set of cut out letters and should be classed as a specialist sign.
The logos along the bottom were designed specifically by the client, and everything is a one-off version.

Bespoke Sign 56
This is a type of sign known as a lightbox. For the purposes of this article we will call it a bespoke sign as that is precisely what it is.
The box itself houses fluorescent tubes, and the face that we see here on the image is translucent perspex with relief-cut vinyl applied to the face.
When the light is turned on, the overall effect is of a beautifully rich purple sign, with the lettering a bright white. Very impressive!

Vinyl Sign 58
This is an interesting bespoke sign because we don’t use a great amount of mirrored vinyl, but when we do it looks really good, very impressive.
The aluminium plate is used as a solid backdrop for the dark grey vinyl that holds the relief cut letters.
The mirrored vinyl itself has to be treated carefully, and applied with some degree of skill. The result truly is a bespoke sign.

There are many signs that we can label as ‘elegant’ but here is one that really epitomizes that word.
Clearly meant to be more than just a mere wayfinding sign, this polished acrylic sign conveys more than information, but reaches into the elevated realms of art.
Although it is commemorating an event it stands out on its own, mostly due to the imagery provided but also on its own merits.

Polished Acrylic Sign 54
The use of polished acrylic signs does tend to be something a little more upscale, but perhaps that is just perception. This particular sign is situated in a local fish’n'chip shop – and it does the job perfectly.
There is the unassuming simplicity of the fish and chips on offer, the sign isn’t overly burdened by lots of data, but it is effective nevertheless.
The polished acrylic is held to the aluminium composite backboard by aluminium locators, allowing a slight shadow to form, lending the polished acrylic sign an interesting effect.
