A very clear example of the braille rasters in their tiny holes, firmly fixed and ready for shipping out. This braille sign is a little bit special because of the colours involved (dark green is not a common one), and notice that this is also a tactile sign.

The braille signs we do are often paired with the associated tactile sign on the same sign. Here you can see a part of it above the braille.

The material being used here is acrylic that is manufactured to hold the tactile section, and then drilled to hold the braille rasters.

This is why it is important for professional signmakers to fit the signs they make. Why? Because the sign fitters (especially here at GRS) have been trained in the correct placement of different types of signs. Take that fire exit sign I mentioned as an example. If it pointed to the right, would you place it well before the corridor has a right turn, just before the turn, or just above the right turn?

Another example that we run into several times is the correct placement of tactile and braille signs. Putting tactile and braille signs above doorways for example, isn’t really thinking about who the sign is tailored towards – the visually impaired. Again, placing it too low, isn’t useful either.
