Tactile Signs

Tactile Sign 4

Here is an example of a tactile sign that is probably one of the most common types you will see. It clearly shows the tactile symbol for an accessibility-impaired person (the 'wheelchair' symbol), and has the tactile wording for it too, as well as the language rasters in place.

The sign itself is constructed using slatz, with plastic end caps for aesthetic purposes.

Tactile Sign 1

Tactile signs are a common means of communication used by people with both a sight and hearing impairment, which is based on a standard system.

As can be seen the pictograms, any lettering if there is any, and the associated braille have raised sections on the sign that can be felt using fingertips. These are not limited to the colours shown, but the blue background is popular, as well as being one of the best colour combinations for contrast.

Tactile Sign 2

Here is a pure tactile sign without any added in. This might be used in facilities where there are no blind individuals, but there may be partially-sighted (and clearly, disabled) people.

This tactile sign is a different colour system, with a white background with raised black pictogram and lettering. As a rule, the raised sections of the tactile sign are 1.5mm high, following the European standards recommended tactile character depth.

Although we display the white on a blue background and the black on a white background tactile signs, these are not the only two colour schemes that GRS Sign Company Limited produces for tactile signs.
